09:30 – 10:45  Roundtable 1:  CIS Commodity Markets: Opportunities and challenges for regional exchanges

Discussions will cover major trends and the outlook for exchange trade development in CIS markets. It will take stock of key factors for successful development of the CIS regional exchange markets, the influence of international markets and the possible future of the CIS commodity markets: specialization or universalization?

The energy markets in Western Europe are mature and there is a trend toward consolidation. However markets continue to evolve. New directions have emerged in trading for example significant use of algos, new operators have entered the market offering peer-to-peer trading while cleared and bilateral OTC markets remain strong. How are central and south eastern European regional exchanges responding to these challenges in their own markets? Beyond this, is the development of consulting and advisory services which may be offered new and emerging markets an alternative? Is further diversification a valid alternative?

The roundtable will focus on innovative products (green energy as an exchange product?), innovative methods of risk management, becoming customer-centric, pros and cons of regional market integration etc.

Speakers will cover issues such as blockchain technologies, smart contracts in exchange trade, automatized exchanges. There will be discussions new innovations, legal basis for digital economy, KPI for electronic exchange, on the future of crypto exchanges, when AI will replace traders.

Discussion of the current trends in regional and national markets both locally and on a broader international perspective. Exploration of the signifigance of agricultural commodities in the CIS regional economies and to what extent to which markets are developing. Are there parallels to be drawn from Asia and South America?
